Old Ideas New Interpretations

Introduction:
The history of Taiwan's ceramics development is traceable starting from those traditional styles of Chinese artwork like household earthenware to "Blue and White Underglaze", "Copper Red in Underglaze", "Doutsai", "Famille-rose overglaze", "Canton Glaze" and even those pseudo-Janpanese styles like Imari ware and Satsuma during the 17th century. Over nearly twenty years, Taiwan's ceramic development has improved from a simple "skill" to a professional "art" gradually. It is not only a significant turning point from the educational point of view, but also one of the key concepts we have to emphasize in the exhibition. During the whole process, we are going to highlight the artists' unique descriptions and records as well as all the gorgeous landscapes and objects on this nation. It is not difficult to see that those artists are capable of creating diversified possibilities through experiencing different natures of ceramics materials. Their masterpieces, therefore, imply artistic concepts and present a unique "national" style.
